  1. ADDING FRACTIONS:
If you have a fraction question like this for example: 1/4+2/8=?
Here is a quick method of finding out the anwser.
1.) First you have to find the lowest common denominator between the two fractions. 2/8=1/4 because 2 (the numerator) divided by 2 is 1, and 8 (the denominator) divided by 2 is 4. 1/4.
2.) You have to divide the numerator and denominator by the same number to get the equivalent fraction.
3.) Now that you've found the lowest common denominator you can figure out the queston more easly. So what is 1/4+1/4=2/4!

Now what if you get a question like this...
    8/16+4/20=_
At first this might seem difficult because you might not be able to find the lowest common denominator as quick as the first problem. But here is how I would do it:
1.) you divide the numerator by the denominator. 8 divided by 16. (if you can't figure that out, use a calculator if you're allowed.)The answer would be 0.5.
You also do the same to the other fraction. 4 divided by 20=0.2.
2.) Next you put the decimal #'s into fractions. ( with easier fractions like that I usally say them out loud. 0.5 is five tenths...see a connection? Five tenths=5/10. 0.2=two tenths= 2/10.
3.) now that you found the fractions in lowest terms you may find it easyer to find the answer. 5/10+2/10=7/10!)
I hope this gives you more clarity on how to add fractions:)

  2. subtracting fractions:
    take lets say 5/6 - 4/7 = 11/42
turn them both into common denomanators like this
6 and 7 both can have common denominator as 42
so you have to mulitiply both numbers (numerator and denominator)to get the commons denominator fraction
    like so 5/6 = 35/42 and 4/7 = 24/42
    so now you subtract 35/42 - 24/42 = 11/42
and now you have your awnser
